Indulging yourself isn’t always a bad thing. I have a few indulgences that I’ll fight tooth and nail to keep, but then I’m a spoilt brat.
My indulgences range from notebooks to good chocolate and tea. But they’re never that crazy. I’m far too much of a spendthrift to truly let myself get going the way I want to.
But, back to my original point. Indulging yourself can be good. It can also be bad, but that’s for another blog post.
I went through a phase when I refused to indulge myself at all. I was miserable. I was saving money and doing good in that way but I wasn’t happy. Eventually, all that self-control slipped.
Do you know what happened? Barely anything.
The world didn’t shift, lightning didn’t strike. I just found myself enjoying a little treat that I’d let myself get.
It was good. It made me feel good and, more importantly it renewed my self-control. I’ve heard it said before that self-control is finite. The more you use, the less you have to dip into.
I let myself indulge on occasion and I no longer have to worry that one day I’ll snap and completely go off the rails.
What’s your favourite indulgence?
