Prompt: Attitude

‘Your attitude determines people’s behaviour toward you.’

Her mother had told her this constantly. With the right attitude, people would flock to her.

But she’d never had the right attitude. It had always been upsetting to recall that her lack of popularity was self-inflicted. Her unenviable position on the sidelines was due to her own shortcomings and if she’d just tried harder, she would be able to fix it.

Or so she’d thought. Happily, the truth was entirely different. Yes, she’d been on the sidelines. Yes, she wasn’t particularly popular. But no, that was not something to feel inferior over.
