The Futility of Jealousy

Jealousy. The green-eyed monster that we all know and hate. Jealousy is an absolutely useless emotion. Everything that you will ever get comes from Allah (SWT) and coveting what others have is just a way to make yourself miserable. It’s not going to bring that blessing into your life.

I’ve been jealous before (I’m sure we all have) and what I noticed was that jealousy results in dissatisfaction with one’s own life. It makes us look at everything we have with the niggling reminder in the back of our heads that we may have all these things but we don’t have that other thing that we really, really want.

Sometimes, you end up getting whatever it is in the end. Sometimes it’s been written for you as well. But the novelty soon wears off and you’re off again feeling jealous about something else. Jealousy removes satisfaction from life. You’re always coveting something new, something better and when you look around you, all you see is what you lack.

The worst part is that it was always written for you. And by harbouring that jealousy, you’ve ruined any chance you might have of truly being happy to have attained it for yourself. More, you’ve wasted time and effort feeling terrible and sad for no good reason!

I particularly hate jealousy. It’s my least favourite emotion.
