Sometimes, the best way to learn something just has to hurt. Sometimes, it’s not enough to be admonished not to do something, to be warned that doing it will hurt.
Sometimes? We need to figure it out for ourselves. We need to feel the pain, bleed the blood, nurse the scrape. If not, we’ll never actually learn the lesson we need to.
Painful lessons are hard. They hurt. They’re vivid and have a huge impact. That’s the point.
Of course, that’s not to say that every lesson we learn must be painful and misery-inducing. But, on the other hand, there’s no point expecting there to be no painful lessons in life – that’s just not how it works.
Life hurts. Sometimes, it hurts because we need it to.
