Choice is a funny thing. Sometimes it feels like we have no choice at all in the direction our life is taking. It feels like life is happening despite our best efforts and we have no say in the matter.
On the other hand, there are times when it feels like there are too many choices – when we have to make decisions about every little thing and we become overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices that make up a single day.
So, which is it? Do we have too many choices or not enough? Is choice a sign of freedom or a sign of responsibility?
It can be both. The power of choice is undeniable and with that power comes responsibility, comes stress, comes uncertainty.
Choice is a complicated thing. It’s hard to make choices all the time and it’s hard to be deprived of making choices at all.
How, then, do we handle life which can by turns be full of choices or lacking them entirely?
We remember that our lives are being planned by Allah (SWT), that there is a reason for every occasion when we haven’t been able to choose what we want and for every occasion when we are being hounded to choose so often it makes our head spin.
